Paris & Versailles - Day 12

One Eurostar train later and we're in Paris, France! The city of love, lights and croissants!

Nom, nom, nom!

We arrived in Paris at 1pm local time. Paris is one hour ahead of London so our clocks got moved again :)

We made it through the subway which is much larger, complicated and, well, dirtier. But it gets the job done!

After checking in we were on our way to Versailles! It's about 45min to an hour outside of Paris. Although it's quite a ways to travel it is worth it. The famous Louis the 16th and Marie Antoinette were the last monarchs to live there. This is a very opulent palace. Decadent. However, while the rooms remain intact much of the furniture is missing as it was sold off during the French revolution to raise money for the new republican government. Both Louis and Marie were beheaded.

We got the the palace 3 hours before it closed. Not enough time to see all. We saw the entire palace but the real attraction lies in the gardens! Acres and acres of beautiful French gardens and walk ways! There were boats out on the lakes and ponds. People relaxing on blankets. Lovers strolling hand and hand through the many secluded paths. This is just the type of place spend a day with your other half :)

Many of the gardens are walled by 2 story high shrubs that conceal hidden gems : statues or fountains to explore. The paths are winding and you'll need a map to see it all. We only saw a small fraction of the gardens. You would need a whole day to explore this gem :)

We stayed will closing and then made our way back to the city. It is truly the city of love! So many couples! Obviously in love :) we met a couple from the states that was on their honeymoon! They had a few more days in Paris before heading to London. We advised them to purchase umbrellas ;)

Dinner at a local cafe was followed by a night in of writing postcards to loved ones. I cannot believe my travels are coming to an end. While I am truly thankful to God for His many travel mercies, and for your prayers, I must say - I am ready to go home!
